Frankfurt/M. – 28. Aug. 2026. The European Security Systems Association (ESSA) invites attendees to the Second Day of Banks and Saving Banks at security essen 2026 on 24 September 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The event will take place in Hall 7 of Messe Essen and is being organized in cooperation with security essen, the leading international trade fair for security technology.


The expert forum is aimed at representatives of banks, savings banks, insurance companies, security professionals, as well as operators of ATMs and safe deposit box facilities. The agenda's focus is on current threat scenarios, new protection concepts, and practical experiences from crime prevention initiatives in Germany and across Europe. 

ATMs and Safe Locker Facilities in Focus 

A topic currently concerning many banks is the rise in attacks on safe deposit locker facilities. At the Day of Banks and Saving Banks Day, Tassja Buchheit from the State Criminal Police Office and Udo Wolf from R+V insurance will present recent cases involving attacks on safe deposit lockers. In particular, burglaries using core drilling techniques and so-called daytime break-ins have attracted significant attention in recent months. 

International Developments and New Standards 

 Attack methods targeting ATMs continue to evolve. Falko Adomat of ESSA will provide an overview of attacks involving hydraulic tools in Europe and the United States. An additional international perspective will be offered by Philippe Piatti from the Swiss Federal Office of Police (fedpol). He will present the close cooperation between law enforcement agencies, banks, and ATM operators in Switzerland. This well-established collaboration has helped reduce the number of ATM explosions by approximately 50 percent within one year compared with 2024. 

Innovative Solutions in Compact Elevator Pitches 
In the third part of the event, leading companies from the security industry will present innovative solutions for risk reduction and operational efficiency in banks and saving banks through short elevator pitches. Featured topics include:

The security essen trade fair will take place from 22 to 25 September 2026 in Essen. With around 500 exhibitors across 40,000 square metres of exhibition space, it is one of the leading international trade fairs for security and fire protection. For the first time, EUDEX – Euro Defence Expo will be held alongside security essen. This new trade fair for the defence industry complements the security exhibition by addressing security-related topics that are becoming increasingly important in light of current geopolitical developments.
